Spring Florida Fly-In "It's Not Winter Here"
Fri 03/??/09 -
Sun 03/??/2009
Near Fort Myers, FL Cost: $?
(updated 2/17/2008)
This is the closest event to a Florida Convention that will be held in
2008. We're planning a big one in April of 2009 on one of two very large
fields (120 Acres of sod) and close to large population centers. But we
didn't get the requisite insurance until too late in the process so
we're just going to plan a big event on the opposite year as Basse Ham.
For
this year, Paul Czarnecki of UCanFly2 and the Pine Island airport are hosting
pilots for their second event. So if you need to warm up, come on down!
57
Pilots had a blast at the end of 2007 at this 2700' grass runway and 8 acre
field that allows take off in any direction. Pilots can fly Sanibel Island, Ft
Myers Beach, Cabbage Key, and others.
There are fantastic places to eat and party nearby after flight activities.
Camping is allowed on location as well as many local on the water B&Bs and
hotels being available. Legalities permitting, tandem rides will be offered
along with Ultralight rides provided by the "Low and Slow" club.

Regardless, if you enroll in the course, there will be daily caravans to the
flying sites.
Want to get your USPPA rating and get the cost refunded?! We will offer PPG 1-3
rating clinics on a first come, first serve basis.
There will
hopefully be a USPPA Instructor Clinic.
Visit here for directions.
Due to the sod, number of PPG's and training activities, we must limit this event to
PPG's only. Sorry.

restaurants all around.
Fort Smith Regional (KFSM) airport is a 10 minute drive with service by American
Airlines and Northwest Airlines. NW Arkansas Regional (KXNA) is an hour drive
and Tulsa is about 1:40.

Kankakee Airport, IL
It's the biggest Midwest
Ultralight Fly-in outside of Oshkosh. Lance Marczak is the PPG
Coordinator for this 3rd Annual event held by Jim Leon.
Last year saw 22 PPG

trip there.
Only Saturday is
listed on the website but PPG pilots are welcome arrive and fly from Thur to Sun
as long as you get a briefing. This is a General Aviation airport (no control
tower, though) so it's important to know where the few no-fly zones are lest we
jeopardize our welcome.
The variety of
aircraft that wander through this event make mid-day entertainment easy. Two
727's flew in during the first one.
Camping on the field
is allowed and hotels are nearby. For more information visit

Now a little History.
Back in the late 80’s A couple of Bouchers purchased this 70 acre farm sight,
boarded on two sides by the Shawnee national forest, and located about ½ mile
from beautiful Lake Kincaid. At this time we were in our heyday of the fixed
wing ultralight aircraft craze, so we immediately constructed a 900 foot runway
to launch our machines. From this point, for the next several years we explored
by air, the diverse and varied landscapes of southern Illinois.
About six miles to the southwest runs the Mississippi river to which we made
several trips landing on the large and ever changing sandbars. Even closer lies
the Mississippi river valley which stretches 50 miles south to the Ohio River.
Bald Knob Cross, located about 15 miles southwest was an interesting trip, and
the large strip mine operations about 5 miles north offered some very different
scenery. Pinckneyville airport is located about 5 miles north of the strip
mines. This airport was our home base until the recent Sport Pilot ruling took
effect, and is now nearly ultralight free, but it‘s a great place to launch
PPG‘s.

Once again, ppg pilots from
across the country and overseas, will flock to the heights of Bob
"Bubba" Peter's ranch in Colorado, West of Pikes Peak, for fun and games
at the annual Lost Stirrup Lodge High Altitude Fly-In. Though a
challenge for pilots from lower altitudes, no attending pilot has failed
to earn this fly-in's coveted "High Altitude Pilot" patch. Earn yours
this year simply by launching. Once in the air, flying is pretty much
the same but with a slower climb rate.
The fly-in is free. No entry fees or charges for camping. You will need
to bring your own RV or tent and food. Nestled in the high plains on the
Ute trail of Colorado's back country, the closest store is in Canon
City, nearly an hour away. Nights are in the 40's and days are in the
70-80's.
The Lost Stirrup Fly-In has been featured internationally in numerous
videos like Into The Wind and it hit the front page of Aero Sports
Connections Magazine in January 2007. This will provide a challenge,
great fun and is nearly bug free.
